After a man shot a Maury County deputy, deputies returned gunfire outside a gas station, fatally shooting him early morning June 15, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

The TBI said the man pulled out a firearm and shot the deputy in the vest. The deputies on the scene returned fire, striking the man who later died at a hospital.
