An official says a mother, father and child were killed when a tree fell on their car as heavy rain and flooding hit Tennessee.

The three were killed when saturated ground caused a large tree to fall in the Chattanooga suburb of East Ridge just after midnight.

Torrential rain and flash flooding in Chattanooga city in Tennessee overnight on Tuesday left at least three people dead, shut down major highways and triggered multiple swift-water rescues, officials said.
