Typhoon Podul slammed into southeastern Taiwan on Wednesday, with powerful winds and heavy rain lashing the island.

Typhoon Podul unleashed strong winds and heavy rains on Green Island, located off Taiwan’s southeastern Taitung province, on Wednesday (August 13). Podul slammed into Taitung city at around 1 p.m.

The storm weakened after hitting the island’s central mountains, according to Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration.

Typhoon Podul made landfall in Taiwan, leading to school and office closures. The storm moved across the southern part of the island at 36 km/h, with heavy rains posing a threat to agriculture.
