Angie Stone (whose birth name was Angela Laverne Brown) built a legacy in the R&B world. The late 63-year-old singer died on March 1, 2025, her daughter, Diamond confirmed in a public statement shared via Facebook. While the two reportedly had a rocky relationship, Angie is survived by her daughter and son.
"Currently funeral services are still being planned along with the memorial service so that Angie’s fans can honor her life, music, and legacy. Even though Angie is no longer with us physically her family wants you to keep her legacy alive."
According to TMZ, the Sequence hip-hop member was killed in a car crash while leaving a performance in Montgomery, Ala.
The Alabama Highway Patrol said the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van that Stone was traveling in overturned on Interstate 65 early Saturday before being hit by a 2021 Freightliner Cascadia truck. Stone was pronounced dead at the scene, the highway patrol said in a statement.
A source close to AllHipHop who works with Stone's team confirmed she and nine other band members were involved in the accident while traveling home from Alabama.
Funeral arrangements are set for Angie Stone. The Stockbridge resident, who died in a car crash last week, will have two services: a public memorial in Atlanta on Friday and a more intimate ceremony in her hometown of Columbia, S.C., on Saturday. Her rep, Deborah Champagne, confirmed the news to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
