The winning jockey of the 151st Kentucky Derby receives a massive fine after violating a major rule in the iconic race.

Junior Alvarado, the jockey who rode Sovereignty to victory at the 151st running of the Kentucky Derby earlier this month, has been issued a suspension and ordered to pay a hefty fine for excessive use of his riding crop during the race.

Junior Alvarado, who rode Sovereignty to victory in last weekend's Kentucky Derby, has been fined $62,000 and suspended two racing days for striking the horse more times than is allowed, horse racing authorities said on Saturday.
