With their first selection in the 2025 MLB Draft, the Detroit Tigers chose 18-year-old shortstop Jordan Yost out of Sickles High School in Florida. A late first-round pick and a thriving MLB roster makes a high-school prospect the logical choice for the Tigers, just as they’ve gone the past two seasons in the first round.

Former Fletcher High School pitcher Kyson Witherspoon was the first selection among Jacksonville-area players in the 2025 MLB Draft.
