The Nintendo Switch 2 will introduce a new software feature designed to help the console’s battery last longer over its lifetime. As with all electronic devices, the battery in the Switch 2 will naturally degrade over time.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will have an option to cap battery capacity at 90%, similar to a long-standing feature from Pixel phones.

“The Nintendo Switch 2 system stops charging when it reaches about 90% remaining battery” with that setting turned on, Nintendo said. “Pausing the charge at around 90% reduces deterioration to the battery.” Nintendo added, “If ‘Stop Charging Around 90%’ is turned on, the charging speed will slow down around 90%.”
