TikTok on Wednesday started testing "Footnotes" in the United States, a feature similar to "Community Notes" used by X and Meta , as the short-video platform awaits a deal that will secure its presence in the country.

TikTok is launching its own version of community notes on the platform, called “Footnotes.” The crowd-sourced approach to moderation, where users add additional context to posts, has become increasingly popular on social media networks after X (then called Twitter) first launched it in 2021.
