President Donald Trump escalated his trade war Tuesday, announcing on Truth Social that he will double the tariffs on steel and aluminum coming from Canada from 25% to 50% in retaliation for new trade restrictions put in place by the province of Ontario this week.

President Trump said he would double steel and aluminum tariffs on Canada amid a fight with Ontario over higher electricity costs for Americans.

The U.S. president has given a variety of explanations for his antagonism of Canada, saying that his separate 25% tariffs are about fentanyl.
