Gifford Fire initially started 3:44 p.m. Aug. 1 in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara County, California. Since its discovery 14 hours ago, it has burned 12,400 acres, an increase of 7,400 acres since the last update. By Saturday morning, the fire crew effectively contained 5% of this fire. The blaze's cause remains under investigation.
