Ellis County has approved its FY 2025-2026 holiday schedule, outlining closures for federal and state holidays.

The Ellis County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported shooting at an unsanctioned "trail ride" event, officials said.

The Ellis County Commission reviewed a draft of the 2026 budget for the final time before publication during its Tuesday meeting. The current draft of the general fund has a 1.84 mill levy increase, from 35.99 mills to 37.83. mills.

Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 in Ellis County is closed for moving to a new building and will reopen on August 14th.

Ellis County is also bringing in licensed mental health professionals to train and certify 25 “Mental Health Deputies” who are specially- trained in crisis intervention.

Anderson has been a registered sex offender since 2016 after ten convictions for sexual exploitation of a child in Ellis County, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections. He also has previous convictions for criminal threat and for drugs.
