Over two dozen reports of thunderstorm wind damage or high wind gusts have been received by the National Weather Service in the western Carolinas and far southern Virginia so far Wednesday. Most of those are for downed trees or power lines, some on houses.

A powerful storm system will continue to spread severe thunderstorms that could produce tornadoes, damaging winds and hail in the South and East through Wednesday. Here's a look a the latest timing and threats for the severe weather.

The National Weather Service urged anyone in the areas included in the tornado warning to take shelter in a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
